I am now considering aluminum heads for my 289, but would like some input on which brand (was going to go with a supercharger, but they are crazy expensive). The car is a daily driver.
About the engine:
*289 block with 302 crank and rods
*Edel intake and 600 carb
*long tube Headman headers
*Howard stage 2 cam (im including a photo of the spec card for it because I botch the info evertime I try to describe it).
I know this has been covered before, but Im having a hard time finding info on the subject.
Thanks!

I like AFR, TFS, and even Edelbrock RPM heads. Dont go huge on the ports, you still have a 289 and it would need alot of RPM to use the big heads. The smallest AFR head would do pretty well, and really wake that thing up. I had good luck with a 5.0 and the E head, it ran good even without the blower.
We are putting TFS or AFR heads on my brothers 68 this winter, whichever one happens to be in stock when we call will go on it.

I have a pair of Canfields. Stage 2 ported with roller rocker arms for $1250 and a set of Trick Flow High Ports Fully Ported with roller rockers and stud girdle $1800. Both are ready to go. The TFS have new valves, guides, 5 angle valve job. Need spring for whatever cam of choice is.

canfields are sweet... why so cheap?
Wouldnt that be a bit much for a street driven 289? Well if he wanted to, it would rpm to the moon and still run hard everywhere..

Got them for a good price. guy was selling his car. Bought complete engine. Put the 5.0 with a 5 speed in a 78 F-150 with GT-40 heads. These Canfield would be great for the street. they are not an all out race port job and they have smaller valves. I think they 1.94 and 1.6. The car they were on was a stock 5.0 with a solid flat tappet cam and 175 hp N2O and ran 6.50 in the 1/8 and he drove it to work and back all the time.
Thanks for the responses THUMPIN455 & hutchamatic. Regarding the Canfields, I will run it past my engine builder (I want his opinion since he built it and will install the heads). The trickflows are getting out of my price range.
I stopped by to talk with him (engine rebuilder) to discuss aluminum heads, and he says after looking into it over the past few days, he thinks these heads from Summit are good product for the price. What is your opinions?

GT-40's are nothing special. There was an article on here, about how to make 400 HP with a 302, for cheap. They used stock heads, but they were ported, and some other stuff done to them. Im probably going to leave my original heads on my car.

I think so. I would have to look at them again. I ahve never used them. they may be something like a 185 or 180 cc but not sure.
The Canfields will make much better power than the GT-40's. That is what we bought them to replace but now are gonna use the TFS's if they don't sell. We are building a 427 windsor and the canfields weren't enough.
