Default Electronic Ignition?

Here is scoop......68 conv, 289 all stock running like a champ. I am a believer in the adage of "if aint broke don't fix it". Having said that, I am very tempted to convert over to an EI system for the reliability and lack of maintenance. What do you guys think? Do it or leave it alone? By the way, I am working on pics and should have them soon.

I with you on "dont fix it till it breaks" but Electronic Ignitions really make a difference! Idle will be alot stronger, pick up quicker, and its very reliable. Trust me you will be happy with the change from points

I changed over to the MSD setup and the car runs much better.

You'll not really have any problems leaving it stock either though. My mustang and truck both have been running points for a long time and neither have ever had any problems. I know that electronic is probably better, but I'm of the philosophy too that if its not broke don't fix it. I just checked the points in my truck the other day for the first time in about 20,000 miles and they were only off by a couple of degrees. The points in my mustang haven't even been checked in probably 25 years.

Late seventies Dura spark II is what I use in most of my cars. All Ford and carry a spare module in the trunk just in case.

I agree with Ideal that points are reliable. My 65 289 had points in it for 40 years and never left me stranded. However, I was given a Pertronix module a few months ago so I installed it. What I notice is that the car starts faster, idles smoother and has a quicker dig.

Even so, I am going to side with Charles on this one. If burn doesn't get 'em, then rust will. I call BS on that claim.
