I just installed my new Chrome Edelbrock Air-Gap intake and about to install my old Edelbrock carb on top. The old carb has the natural aluminum finish but has been cleaned with a solvent or something by the previous owner that has dulled and spotted it badly []. Does anyone know the best way (if any way) to clean up the aluminum finish?
Just some metal polish is your best bet, unfortunately air and aluminum react quite nice and in a week or so your hard work will again turn to aluminum oxide.
I have used a soft wire cup/brush on my dremel to polish. Be careful of getting water on the carb as well. If you have hard water, it will leave mineral deposits on the aluminum.
I suggest you soak it in Berryman's carb cleaner overnight. That will take off any of the old solvent left over, and at least give you a clean start to begin with.
