Default Package tray idea

I was thinking about chucking that old flimsy carboard material thing and making one out of fiberglass, and painting it gloss black. Sound like a decent idea?

I made a new one out of some thin Luan Plywood and painted it black. THat worked out pretty well as a temporary fix. I needed a quick fix so I could mount speakers. When I do the entire interior I am going to re-do it I haven't figured out how yet.

My 67 coupe have two metal clips attached to the top front of seat back stop with a lip which tightens/holds the front of the tray in place...maybe other year models dont..

My 65 not only has the two metal clips to hold the front down, it also has two screws, one on each side front corner.

Yup. Ya' know....I have been thinking about this for a long time. We have been designing and discussing metal backs to the rear seats, and tank armor, etc. but little mention about fire coming into the interior through the package tray in case of a rear end collision. How about designing and building a metal package tray? That would kill two birds with one stone.

hmm, ill have to look at mine again. I dotn remember any clips and definitly no screws. I was thinking maybe acouple dabs of weatherstripping adheasive to stop it from vibrating but it would still be able to pop up easily enough.
