Default Quick Carb Help

After all of your guys' advice I decided to have the carb rebuilt, save a little extra money, and then maybe upgrade to a 4v later. I'm having it rebuilt by a reputable shop right by my school that currently has 7 Mustangs they're restoring ('69 vert, 302 Boss, ACTUAL Shelby which they're turning into Eleanor []). Anyways, they sounded good and sold me when they said they'd let me take a look at the cars. The mechanic said that I would have to have the tag on my carb though in order for him to rebuild it correctly.

Where's the tag?

Should be a metal tag w/ carb codes. However, If for soem reason it does not have the code, I would think they could narrow it down enough with the build date of the car etc. As long as it is the original carb.
Good luck.

Motorcraft carbs should have a metal tag on the front under one of the lid screws. This tag is usually the first thing to come up missing. The nice thing about these carbs is that virtually all of them take the same rebuild kit. At least all of the 2100 series. My suggestion, if you don't have the tag, is to go to your local U-pick and find the oldest Motorcraft out there and copy the tag number as a reference. The motorcraft carbs were used on a lot of applications to include Jeeps.

If it's missing shouldn't I see a hole for the screw where it used to be? I don't have a U-Pick around here but I think that shop might have a '67 with the 2100 so maybe I could ask if he could use that...orrrr if anyone is in a really nice mood they could copy their tag number onto here . If neither of those will work maybe I'll try to find one at a junkyard or something

Maybe you can rebuild it yourself, 2 bbls are not too hard to do. Might save you some money. The carb rebuild kits come with instructions, just make sure you have a good clean work station and maybe take some photos before disassembly.

I would but I'm a complete noob and you guys would get tired of my constant questions on the site once I started. For $140 I can be very confident with what I'm getting and start a relationship with a shop I'll probably want to use in the future. I considered it but this is just something that I don't want to mess with.

Yeah, whether he rebuilds it himself or has someone else rebuild it for him.....it would still be nice to have that tag number, but not completely necessary because like I said, the MC 2100's all used the same basic kit.

Here is a step by step if you want to plow into it yourself flat tire. We can talk you through it if you do decide to rebuild it yourself.

Thanks for that link - it seems like a pretty good tutorial but these are the first two sentences, "Carburetor rebuilding can be intimidating. The sheer number of parts alone have been known to make grown men flee to a carb rebuilder. The job can be completed by anyone who possesses average mechanical ability and common sense". I don't have average mech. ability. It's alright thanks anyways, but the rebuild seems like a good option to me. Maybe I'll even post some pics up of the cars at this shop if I can so you guys will get something out of it.

Will there be a hole where the tag used to be though?

You have to start somewhere, and a carb rebuild on a relatively easy carb to rebuild would be the fist place to start to get to know your engine and how it works. The tag will be a small aluminum tag that attaches to one of the front screws that are already there to hold your carb together. A quick search will tell you it is either there or it isn't.
Think about it.....If you totally and completely screw up the rebuild, what have you lost? Nothing but a few bucks. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
