Default Engine Price

I was just wondering what prices you can expect for a 1966 289 motor. 2 bbl. it was rebuilt 5 years ago and has 20 000 miles on it, there aren't any spectacular mods to it just a solid running stock engine.

I would guess you could have 1 rebuilt for around $1500.
So for a used 1 a would guess a few hundred dollars less.
Are you buying or selling?

Probably 750 tops imo...as long as the engine is still in the car and the buyer can hear it run.

Why go from a 289 to a 302? They are the same block, I would get some nice heads, cam, headers, intake carb and be done with it.

+1. If you really want an upgrade go with a 351 or something along those lines.

If it was rebuilt 5 years ago and has 20 000 miles on it why would you change engines?

I agree.

Upgrading to a well built 302 will set you back well over $2000.00 and an old running 289 may only get you $400.00

You can get just as much HP from a built 289 as you can a 302 unless you go crazy. Add some new heads, intake, carb, headers and decent dual exhaust, and that old 289 will scare the hell out of you.
