Default Bondo nightmare

Hi everyone

I don't expect anyone to explain how to fix this, but if anyone can give me there thoughts (65t5ponycoupe) please

The owner of this car before me obviously replaced the roof & I had no idea until I took the head liner out (I'm a noob what can I say) but as you can see by the pictures the area between the 1/4 & the roof was super bondo'd & had a terrible patch job done to it!

I have a feeling this is going to be VERY expensive to fix and I am feeling totally bummed, the rest of the car seems pretty good floors are solid etc. is this a big enough problem to just part the car out? Or is it within reason to repair this area? I don't see any sheet metal available for this area of the car?

Thanks, almost anything you have to say is cool. I don't really have anyone to talk to about the car other then people here. I feel kinda dumb but the car was fairly cheap at least.

Darcy

Am I wrong.....but most of what I see appears to be freshly sanded metal except for the small patch of bondo near the window? If so, any body shop should be able to cut out the bad area and either braze in a patch or use fiberglass. Unless I am seeing things wrong, it doesn't appear that bad.

i doubt the roof was replaced probably the quarter was the filler cracking? who thick was it? if it wasnt cracking i would weld the small fracture in the sheet meatal and re wipe it with filler

Thanks for the replies guys!

The roof was replaced for sure. I first noticed it when I took the headliner out and could see the welds in all four corners! This picture might help it make more sense ...its hard to see in the picture I think that there is a hole there! I am the one who took the primer off to see what was under there. I'm sure there must be a better way to fix that area then bondo mania!

By the way anyone who can use bondo that well is actually talented! I know I could never shape an area like that!

i would weld a patch back where that chunk came from and ur also gonna need a chunc of the drip rail replaced then i would use u.s.c. All Metal, filler after welding its about the closest thing u can get to lead work without actually doing it! its aluminum based and waterproof and supposedly lets paint adhere better than conventional fillers

I would say get that corner down to bare metal before you make a desision on how to proceed. You should grind all of the bondo out to see if it has been welded correctly. When it is heavy body work like replacing the roof the structutural part is more important than the looks. If the roof has been welded on you will have welds on your windshield posts also. From what I can see it doen't look too bad except for the patch that fell out. You won't really know until you look at the welds. How do the welds look on the inside?

Thanks for the reply!

These pictures show the inside welds. Do they look good enough? As you can see there is a lot of surface rust on the inside of the roof etc. It doesnt seem to be rotted anywhere just surface rust, I wonder if this car should be dipped & that would take care of it??

Thanks agian for looking

Darcy

Edit** I was (still am) mainly concerned with the amount of filler in the area where the 1/4 meets the side panel it was amazing! I dont know if thats normal or not all I ever hear is filler is bad!***

Looks great! I would not worry about the welds. I wonder why they did a nice job on the inside and then messed up that patch? Strange!
