Default Tire size question??

Hi all!
I have stock wheels 14x5 in. The tires I have on now are 195 -75 -14s. I was looking at going to some other tires but they only offer a 70 series. The original equiptment on my car was 185-75-14. I would really like a wider profile. Would a 70 series tire give me that and what size should I get? I have a '65 stang.
Thx, Walt

I put 215/60-15 on my '65, but it's a very tight fit. You could try a 215/70-14, it's about the same size. A 205/70-14 would also work.

I am running 195/70R/14 and am happy with the wider tires over stock. I believe my 500's are 7" wide though. Check with Dodgestangs chart to see what will fit a 5" rim.

The size 70 series is a shorter side wall. This wont affect the "footprint" of the tire by much, if anything. You can fit a 215/60-14 on there with ease---you can shop sizes on Summitracing.com or other distributors. Make sure you check section width and overall tire height before ordering---make a backspacing template too---it takes about 20 min with a piece of angle iron---Good Luck!

I would by all means get a larger tire. I have a 65 mustang and i upgraded to the magnum 500s and put a 245 60 15 in the rear and a 215 60 15 in the front. What a difference. It changes the cars whole attitude. it is the regular mag 500 rim in the jegs magazine If you wanted to get your steel styled wheels i think there is a company that makes a 15x7 also just look on fordmuscle.com. I wanted to go with a torque thrust d rim but the offset was to little (3.75) with the 4.25 offset i was able to get a bigger tire and without any rub. Good luck

I'm looking to change my wheels/tires too, and looking at all different sizes. Any chance you have pics of your car, 1965mustang, that you could post? I'm looking to get some of the Halibrand style Cobra wheels. I think those would look great on my 65 coupe.

At the historic auto races this past weekend in Monterey, CA, I saw a lot of classic mustang racers that had 15s on them. That was a good look. 15x8 i think, but I'm not sure of the tire width they were running.

While I certainly do not recommend it, as the rim is too narrow for this wide of a tire, but I have 235/60/14 all around on my '65 Fastback. These tires were on the car when I recieved it from my relative. I believe I have the stock 14x5 rim, with 3.5" backspacing. I did not have any problems until I installed a new suspension on the car. When I put the front tires back on and spun them, the tire itself was just barely rubbing the upper control arm ball joint. I put approx 1/4" spacers on, and problem fixed. I can take some pictures of my setup if you would like.
