How can i Supe this up
So my grandpa decided that he wasnt willing to spend the money to replace the engine with a 289. So now im stuck with this lil straight 6 200cc. Wat can i put into it that will give it a lil extra HP. Would it even be worth it? How much would it cost? Would putting flow masters on even be worth the 500 dollars with that lil engine in there?

BTW if you swap, dont swap to a 289.

I absolutely agree that the six is not the way to go but I'm curious, why would you advise against a 289/302? Especially in an early car.

Because he is obviously not attempting to build a factory looking car, but modding it. If this is the way he is going 289 = crap. If you want to keep a factory look and just do internal work then of course the 289 is going to be better.
My dead stock 88 thunderbird (automatic) WALKS away from a 65 289 HiPo (automatic). Thats pretty sad.
And because for not much more money he could have a 351 in there instead. Aftermarket parts will be easyer to come by and he will be making a ton more power. The 289 will cost more to build up in the end than a 351 horsepower for horsepower.

Im talking about the 289 HIPO that came in the early model mustangs. Everyone always seems to talk like they are something special, but I am clearly not impressed.
I dont care what 289 you swap to, you would have been better off with a 351, and I would almost bet it would end up costing you less performance part for performance part.
I know that HP for HP you will spend less on the 351. This means for a certian budget the 351 is going to be making a ton more power.

289 Hi-po has 225 HP, the normal 289 has 200.....
A 351 is way more powerful, but do you want to waste way more gas is the real question, I have a 302 I dunno what it puts out, porb 250-ish? and I waste a ton of gas. [:@] But yes, I do love the thing.

The 289 HiPo IS a special motor and that's why I asked if your friend's car was a solid lifter motor. It's not just a 289 with a 4BBL. It has special heads, a solid cam and makes a conservative 271 bhp, 306 with a holley, intake, and free flow exhaust as installed in a Shelby.
Does a larger motor have the potential for cheaper horsepower? In this case, probably but he was looking for the cheapest and easiest way to get a V8. It's almost always more cost effective to go with a motor that was originally available in a given vehicle.
