Default 3spd vs 4

Ok im wanting to get a 4spd manual instead of my current 3spd. the 3spd works fine its just that alot of people have told me that a 4 spd would give me much more power, or at least give me much better acceleration. any of u guys know where i could get a 4spd? and does anybody know of any other vehicles that were a 4 spd that would bolt on to my 289 with ease that i could possibly steal the tranny out of at the junk yard. any ideas would be appreciated

-thanks

google david kee top-loaders, great stuff. We have bought some off him, I swear by the four-speed top-loader, these are some of the strongest trannies out there (not just david kee, but top-loaders in general). Another option is to go to a junk yard and try to find one, then get it rebuilt, either way, I say 4-speed.

I bought my WR from Perogie. With the WR, 1st and 2nd are identical between the 4-sp and 3-sp. The difference is the 4-sp has one more underdrive before going straight through for a little more acceleration up top.

why not go for the t5 5speed swap its alot easier to find and will let you use a lower rear gear for even better accelaration

I went from a 3 speed to a t5. The t5 swap was easy and fairly well priced. You can find used t5's just about anywhere. It is a direct bolt, you need to cut the tunnel area for the shifter to fit unless you get a crossmember specifically designed for the t5 swap. But if the t5 is not an option for you, I would say that the 4 speed toploader is the next best thing.
