Default 69 FB with 390 question

Hello

Well, I just bought a 69 fb with a 390ci motor in it, I bought it unseen exept for some photos and some comments from the seller.

I would like someone to help me identify if its a bastard or if its just a option etc.

I cant pick the car up until late friday so Im just trying my luck here to satisfy my curiousity.

Btw I live in Norway

It has a rpm gauge Im thinking on the hood, wood dash, a 390 lump and a 4 speed manual.

How much hp should I exepct from the 390, I belive its a stock motor

And its seems to me that there isnt much talk about the 390 engine in here, I browsed (being bored and at work) alot of the dif threads and they mostly talk about 200eds , 302 and 351 motors. Seeing Im new to mustangs Id like a tip or something about a thread where someone has tuned a 390 and what their experiences with it has been.

Trying to upload some pic but the frikken thing is fighting me

That wiring all over the engine look damn ugly I mean at least wrap the connector for weather reason, plus that much wire near hot engine might equal mess, or fire in my opinion. But it yours now and they do make you smile!!

Hello Erik,

nice car, nice engine and with manual trans. Fe - engine makes Mustang little bit heavy at nose, but torque is great. I tested one my friends FE powered Mustang few weeks ago and what ride. I am doing right now ´68 FB with 390 and Top Loader manual. One thing: why there is Pontiac style tach on the hood

No clue m8 no clue at all.

Was one of the reasons I wanted to ask in here, if Ford had that a s a option and if I should then consider keeping it, but if it is like you say a Pontiac bolt on its gonna get ripped off.

Allso, does it have a mach 1 dash?

I see the same dash in the mach 1 cars but I havent seen it in any fb.

Maybe its a year/model/option thing, but as stated, I know enough to know I am ignorant

I believe the 69 390 was rated at 390 HP. The 390 engine is in the FE series of motors, also in that series was the 427, 428 and several others. You are correct that they are not discussed much on this forum. www.fordfe.com is a great source of information for the FE engines, however they are not a mustang forum such as this great site!!! But I think you will be happy with the 390, they are not a bastard engine, just not discussed much on this forum. Nice car by the way.

In 1969 there were:

- S - code 390 with 320hp

It seems to me that you have Deluxe interior group and it included simulated woodgrain on the dash, door panels and console. Clock is on the passenger side dash pod.

Hey

Thanks KTM

Deluxe interior a pluss , going from 390 hp to 320 hp was a let down. Guess the tuning fairy gotta come earlyer then

Gonna get a clean up in the engine bay when I get it, cant wait to get my clammy hands on it.

The 390 is a relatively rare engine in a mustang. I dont think that mach came with a 390 though. I think its supposed to be a 351C in '69 at anyrate. The 390 usually came in GT models. Indicated on the lower portion of the front fenders. A lot of em came with automatics and were dubbed GTA. I'm 99.9% positive that 1968 was the last year for the 390. I think in '69 the available motors were - 302, 351W, 351C (mach1), 428(mach1), Boss 302 (its different than a windsor block), boss 429. Hope this helps .

Sorry but 1969 was final year for 390 in Mustang and 1967 was final year for GTA. 1968 there were only GT and automatic trans does not show in model name. I think 390 was dropped middle of 1969 and replaced with 351. Any way fact is that 1969 390 is S - code and 1969 351 is H or M - code depending hp ratings
