you are damn lucky that the ball and socket in the power steering control valve did not wear out! once it does, you will have no steering, INSTANTLY! GET A PUMP ON IT YESTERDAY!!!

.Are we 100% sure about the value letting go and ending up with no steering,I know more than 1 car that have been running like this for awhile and have no problems yet.

this sleave and the stud that goes in it is all that control the steering, once the socket gets enough wear, the ball stud will fall and the steering will fail, I have parted a few cars that this has happened to that have hit big things right after....

Twister is right, however they do make a part to swap out the power steering ball stud that converts it to manual steering. I saw it in the NPD catalog if you want to go that route.

Ok. So I have the part to go from p/s to m/s. When I go to remove the control value from the pitman arm how should the suspension be, car in the air or on the ground. thanks for the info about leaving the control valve on.

If you're going to go that route to manual steering, go with a rack and pinion. You're going to go and do all that work and keep a steering box that's over 40 years old. To replace a steering box is $500 and its still old technology. Bite the bullet and get you're self a rack and pinion upgrade for $850 and be done with it. It will feel very much like power steering with 10 times the control. This is what I'm doing very soon...

My two cents.

only for 67-70...when that convertion first came out, I sold one to my brother, it works real well, but remember, the steering gear box for a PS car is 15:1, and a manual box is 19:1...while the power steering gearbox turns quicker, it will be harder to turn
