Default t45 t56 67 coupe

I have a 1967 mustang Coupe with a '73 351 cleveland engine and i am looking for a manual transmission. I have contacted a guy who says he has a t56 that came out of a 97-98 GT and i thought that it was a t45 that came out of that car. In either case I need to know if it will fit in the car.

The 97 doesnt have a t56, unless someone swapped it in there. A t56 is a six speed transmission. The 97s came stock with a t45 5 speed. How much HP are you pushing. You would be much better off going for a TKO or simalar transmission.

The t45 doesnt like to be power shifted, espically in 3rd gear.

right now I am getting about 290hp and somewhere between 300-350ft-lb but thats stock. In a year or so i am goin to start to bore, stroke, new heads, new intake, cam, and carb, and that will push the hp up around 450+ and i need a trans that will hold that or more would work.

Then the t45 is not for you. I dont think I would put a t45 behind a 351 anyway. We went thru this with my fathers 1969 Mach 1 about year ago, and after all the bull**** decided to just go back to the 4 speed manual.

You have to have a different bellhousing and a bunch of other stuff, plus I beileve you will need a differnt clutch setup as well. Its a pretty big job.

Have you thought about going automatic? I built automatic would be pretty nice in that car.

Built automatics > 5 speeds.

Either that or go with a 4 speed manual. A super T10 is what we are running in the mach 1
