its impossible!
hey fellas!
I am currently ( TRYING TO ) replacing my lower radiator hose in my 1968 mustang, and let me just tell you, ITS IMPOSSIBLE! IT SIMPLY CAN NOT E DONE! the alternator is in the way, the alternator bracket s in the way, the fan is in the way, the fan belt and alternator belt is in the way, all this **** is in the way making it impossible to replace the hose. because of this hose my 68' stang will never run again! [sm=boohoo.gif][sm=sigh.gif][sm=violin.gif]
so, inless someone can tell me a way to replace this stupid hose, my car is doomed. the only way i see right now to beable to get that hose on would be to take the motor oout of the car and work on it that way. and there would be no gauerntees doing it that way!
i am so ****ING agravated! please someone help me! thanks.

If you refuse to do it like I told you by using several extensions on your ratchet with the 5/16 socket, then take the alternator off. You don't have to unhook the wiring to the alternator if you don't want to. Just take it off, and gain a better access to the clamp. Here are some pics of my 65 that may look familiar in how to gain access to that clamp.

y not remove the 2 bolts in the alternator and move it out of the way and undo the four fan bolts? problem solved and put some soap on the inside of the hose to slip it back on easily!
Sometimes you have to remove a part to get to another, you cant change a timing chain with the water pump still bloted to the block and you cant change a converter with the trans still attached. Sometimes its just easier to remove one part than it is to fight everything around it to get at whats under it.
Welcome to the world of auto mechanics, and a 68 Mustang is one of the easiest vehicles I have ever worked on. Smile to yourself and just unbolt the alternator so you can see everything under there and get it off easily.

+1 just remove the alt if you have to. On my 65 I didnt have to remove anything...It was kinda a tight fit but I got it on.
I am about as far from a menchanic it gets, and I love how I can work on my car so much with my trusty shop manual handy. I can't change the bloody air filter in my SUV without undoing a huge mess of wires and sensor connections, then it's housed in a plastic box that takes super human contorsioin abilities to undo and crack open. So this hose problem is no biggy.
It may take me a while to figure out what's wrong, but by taking your time you can figure out the right way to fix many things.
Changing the hose is easy compared to other tasks, so don't get frustrated. Take your time and the advice of those posting.
Have fun.
