390 Engine Running Hot...What's Normal?
I've been meaning to ask this question for a week and had a few mins on the computer now so I thought I'd throw it out...
How hot, at what temp, does your 390/big block run?
I'm at about 210 degrees.
- 88 degree day
- Stock engine with stock radiator
- A/C on full
This seems hot to me. However, I don't really want to loose my original radiator to an after-market product.
Any suggestions???

Yeah, that's too hot. If you don't want to lose the original radiator, take it to a rad shop and have then rod it. After all these years, it most likely is clogged with massive amounts of calcium and other crud.
Yep, it's original to the car (S-code with A/C).
However, having it rodded or recored is a great idea, I hadn't thought of that...[sm=goodidea.gif]
Also, I guess the first thing will be to have it back-flushed and see if that will help.
Thanks

210 isn't too hot if it sits there. I have a 196* thermo in my 390 and it sits between 205 and 215 depending on the wind direction. If you're worried, drop in a 180* thermstat.
