Default Need Tire/Wheel advice

Hi all, first post here. It looks like a great forum. I didn't see a wheel/tire thread anywhere so I hope I'm posting this in the right area.

I'm looking for some advice related to my 70 Mach 1 which is getting close to completion and I'm in a quandry about wheel/tire size. Other Q's too...

I have new rims purchased, magnums, 15x8 rear, 15x7 front. How big a tire can I stuff on it without rolling the wheel well lips or causing other problems? I know 255/60 rear and 235/60 up from will work fine as I see them at car shows but want to go bigger if I can.

What tire brand/model is available with a more modern look? I'd like a more up to date tread design tha a BF Goodrich TA or a Goodyear Eagle offer if there is such a thing available. I've looked on-line and at local tire stores with no sucess.

Or, should I trade in the new rims for a 17/16's (I'd only be out the shipping costs)...and what tire size would fit using these rims. I think going to a 17/16 rim would open up a few more tire size options for me. Is there a place I can get a picture of a 70 outfitted with 17" magnums? I'd really like to see what the car would look like before I lay down more cash.

Is the raised white letter look still the hot ticket? Or are guys going to a plain blackwall?

Thanks for any help.

Go check under the FAQ section in the classic mustangs, it is at the top of the page. There are some excellent wheel/ tire fitment charts in there.

Youre going to be very limited when it comes to a 15" rim. Most new vehicles come with 16" or larger wheels now a days so, IMO, it would be better to go with a 16" and preferably a 17". Youll have more sizes to choose from. As for tire sizes, I would need to know the OE tire size (225/60/15,etc), then I could tell you what size you would need in a 16 or 17.
