Default Replacing Package tray.

This mornging, I woke up with a project in mind. I needed to replace the package tray, because I had cut my old one to receive the new 6X9 speakers, and I decided to go back to the old AM radio with the lone speaker in the front. Well, anyway, after purchasing a 4' X 8" piece of masonite from the trusty ACE hardware store, and after using my trusty jig saw to cut out the new panel, I finally ran out of energy. It has been 100+ degrees here in Texas for the past month, and I just can't work in that heat, even in my garage with a fan running full blast. So, early tomorrow morning, I will attack it again. Here is a pic of what I have done so-far. The rough side goes up. [

I just did a similar project to INSTALL two 6 X 9 speakers to replace a pair of 5 1/4 speakers from years ago. Turns out that the holes in the metal are TOO SMALL for the 6X9's, and I had to lay in the trunk and enlarge the holes with a sabre saw. Those little bits of metal the saw chews off are HOTTTTTT!!!!!! Always wear safety glasses too! Anyway, I got the project done, and the 6 X 9's work VERY well with the trunk volume as a huge bass enclosure. I can almost make it sound like Generation Y if I set the bass to +6!! And you're right about the heat. I did mine two weeks ago here in Ohio, and I was drenched when I was done... I can't imagine doing this in the Texas summer heat...

Yeah, it's a bish to lay on your back with sweat dripping into your eyes and the damn 6X9's wont fit into those tiny holes, isn't it? After drilling new screw holes, I finally got them to fit, but the radio I got was crap, so I decided to just go back to the AM radio and whenever I want a stereo sound I will just drive the 03 Mach or the XLT Lariat pickup.

There is only one 6X9 hole. So, if you put in two, you did what I did by drilling screw holes or you used a sawzall and made the two holes bigger. I'm just glad I am back to one speaker in the front dash. The old AM works just fine.

Nope, there were two 5x7 holes back there already from the factory. I installed the speakers from the bottom with longer screws and it worked out great. I did not need to do any mods at all. I also purchased a special speaker for the dash that has two speakers in one so, I have stereo with front/Rear and Left/Right speakers. Got everything from Custom Autosound and it not only sounds great, it has an input for my ipod!! I always have over 300 songs at my finger tips...

Yeah, I also put the two 6X9s in from the bottom. I had to drill some holes to get it there though. Anyway, all that mess is gone now.

Looks good Glen. Personally, I like it plain without the speakers anyways...

Yeah, you DFW guys have had the nation's highest temps for awhile now. I used to dread Arizona and Florida weather during August, but now it seems Texas is even worse.
