Default Hedmann Headers

Hi

I bought me some Hedmann Headers for my stang, 289V8. But i'm facingin some troubles installing them. It appears some of the pipes are bend to much to insert a correct bolt. The curve is so sharp that the bolt will not go in 2 of the 8 holes. Has anybody else had troubles with this ? How did you solve it then.

thanks.

It sounds like you have the wrong headers for that engine.

Put the hard bolts in first and don't tighten any of them down until you have them all started.

Are you talking about the hole on the flange that is welded to all the primary tubes? The bend in the tube is too sharp to get the bolt in the flange hole? Do those holes line up with the holes in the heads? Check by placing the header gasket to the head and flange. If that works, then you got thr correct ones, well for that engine anyways. Doesnt mean they are for the car, but im not sure.

My Hedmans went in no problem...you better double check that you've got the right set.

i also installed a pair of hedman long tube headers on my 302 and they bolted on just fine. the engine was out of the car when we did though if that has anything to do with it. but they fit in there just fine with the engine installed.

Is this your first header install? That problem is a typical header thing. As stated before, just barely start two easy bolts to hold the header in place. Then install all of the bolts starting with the hardest ones first. Do not tighten anything until you are sure that all bolts are started. Then draw them all up tight and even. Headers are not fun as you are finding out.

Yeah I'll chime in with a "what 67t5ponycoupe said". I put Hedmann shorties on my 1972 with 351W, with the motor in the car. 2 of the bolts more towards the inside, if I recall correctly, seemed utterly impossible at first. But deadcarnahans, Volcom66, and 67pony have spelled out exactly how you need to do it. Patience is a must. Some of the bolts I could only tighten like 1/16th of a turn at a time, and I also needed to approach the bolts with 4 or 5 different major body contortions to get the blasted wrench on there.
