Framerails... ?'s
Hey everyone
New guy here with a '65 i6 coupe. This is a project for my brother and I. We got it for eh like 3 grand. The floor is pretty rusty, so we're going to replace that, but I also noticed that both of the right framerails are beyond fixable. What is the most effective way of replacing these? The rear spring shackle? is only a couple hours from giving out. I'm surprised it has lasted this far haha. Are we going to have to extract the engine and front frame to replace it? Or would it be smarter to replace all four while we're at it. Thanks for any info/suggestions.

If you are a novice, I suggest you take your car to a frame shop to have the rails replaced. They have to be aligned perfectly. After the frame rails are replaced, then you two guys can proceed with the floors, etc.
Cant stress that enough. The car needs to be straight and supported while you are doing that work. If you dont have the skills or tools, DONT DO IT! You will have a heap of metal that you cant use if done wrong.
How far does it have to be torn down? Well check out the 71 in my avatar... about that far to fix frame rails.

Oh damn. Ballpark estimates as to how much it would cost to get all four replaced? I have most of the car stripped minus the engine, suspension and dash. Would it be worth it trying to salvage the current ones and basically fabricate/strengthen the current ones? The main rotted out parts are right in the front near the radiator and in the back where the very rear floor pans are welded in.
Thanks for the help.
