In my first electronics class in college my instructor told us that 99% of our problems we encountered would be connection issues, bad wiring, cold solder joints etc. I would verify contintinuty from the socket plug to where the light bulb makes contact with the socket with a mulitmeter; you may have to pull the whole assembly out to do this easier. The contacts could be corrided or dirty. On my '66 Mustang one of my reverse lampsockets was shot and I had to replace the whole thing. Also check the where the reverse lights plug into the harness and make sure those connections are good. </P>
You may beable to find the parts you need to replace the entire assembly from Dallas Mustang or California Mustang.</P>

Thanks for the tip(s). I will put a meter on it to see if there is current. One more question, the connectors in the wiring housing have 2 ends and the bulb (1142) only has one, is this correct? Because if it is correct, then I have the wrong bulb, I'm using a 1156 bulb. Please reply. Thanks.

Another great site for Mustang parts/manuals is http://www.metropartsmarket.com/. Try 'em out. They even have good pictures of the parts you're looking for! <edited><editID>JXO681</editID><editDate>37798.3418981481</editDate></edited>

On my 65 mustang if I put the car all the way in reverse(automatic) the lights don't come on. But if I just stop it when it engages in reverse the lights do work. So if I keep it in the front of the revese position instead of at the back of it they work. (You know how you havea littleslackin the shifter.)

First thing to check is power. Always need power. Check for power at the bulb if ok check ground. If no power at the bulb/socket then check for power at the reverse switch on the transmission. If you have power input check for power out. Most common cause is a faulty switch at the trans. No power found check power sourse ( FUSE )
