Both the tubular and the flat one are probably equally as effective, but I would prefer a black flat one to be period correct. If you are going the chrome route, then the chrome flat one would be the choice. My 2c

The second one would be better. The first one has too many pivot points and is less effective used alone. However, it would be more effective with an integrated Monte Carlo bar tied into it similar to the model TCP has.

I get most of my parts from Texas Mustang, but you could shop around at just about any Mustang vendor. I wouldn't pay more than 50 bux for a Chrome, and 40 bux for a black one though. It's the combination of the export brace and the Monte Carlo bar that stiffens up you front though. So, you may as well go whole hog.

I actually just order one from Car Parts Wholesale through ebay. There is another one listed. Only 7.95 and 12.95 shipping for black painted. I figured I would give it a shot as they are prob all manufactured by the same co. in taiwan. I think they have chrome ones as well. Be carefull though with the chrome. I had a chrome one on an old mustang and they tend to rust pretty quickly, and I would think all the repros are pretty much similar quality chrome.

For 7.98 I just now ordered one to see what quality it is. I wouldn't expect it to be very thick, and maybe not even as good as my shock tower to cowl brace. We'll see.

(IMO) The deep drawn stock style export brace is much more efective. Not only does it do the most effective job of supporting the shock towers it also does an excellent job reducing chassis twist.
As soon as you start putting hiem joints and multiple bolt together pieces in the mix, you loose structural integrity.
The best one I've seen is from NPD (the more expensive one). It is a substantial piece of quality metal with good deep draws.
The only time I would go away from this is if the stock piece wouldn't fit due to engine components, or if I wanted form over function (like a show only car).

I actually ordered one of the cheapos just to see what the quality is. I will report back when it comes in next week. Most likely, I will just keep my shock tower to cowl brace.

I think these are neat looking...They have no flex points, are tubular, and look nice to me. The black ones are much cheaper...
