Some 1967 Questions
Haha thanks Thumpin!
TORQUE!? What is this torque you speak of? The Celica is a sick puppy. With only about 120-130 lbs ft of torqe at 7,800. Doesnt have the "oomph" that Im looking for by no means. We had a 1994 Chevrolet Corvette (sold) and it had good torque numbers right up there with the horse power numbers. Ive about forgotten what torque feels like.
Oh yes, I know its a lot more than just adding CAI, exhaust, and such. Ive rebuilt several engines and there is so much you can do internally, Im guessing that is where you're going to be getting most of your power from. Instead of the forced induction/CAI/bolt on mods.

WOW! You are one lucky man. That car will clean up fast and be beautiful. You say that was your mother's car? Was she a Mustang enthusiasist? The aftermarket Tachometer intrigues me as an add on by a woman.

As far as her being a Mustang enthusiasist I dont know about that. Ive only been around since 1984 (Im 21) and to my knowledge this is the only Mustang that she owned. However, in my lifetime I have seen her drive a 1994 Chevrolet Corvette and a 1998 (I do believe it was) Pontiac WS-6 Ram-Air. Needless to say, she was a sports car fan.
Dad was also quite the muscle car fan. Hes had so many different cars and got rid of them its not even funny. Namely that 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS that he got rid of for $1,000! He is also an Auto body man with 30+ years of experience. We have our own private shop that has been in business for over 40 years (my grandfather had it before my dad and I.) I'll have access to all the tools needed to mess with this thing so it will be an experience!

To answer the auto vs manual question........ I would bet that the average driver with a C4 auto equipt with a shift kit and a higher stall converter will kill the manual 99 times out of 100. Less likely to break driveline parts also.
You lucky bastage, lol.
Get the car cleaned and start taking some pics. see if you can get underneath and take shots of the frame rails and floor pans. take a pic of the door jam and door side. There should be a plate there with numbers on it that we can get an idea of what the factory sent your mom back in the day.
Great ride to restore, friend. Good luck and keep us updated.

You are a very lucky man. That also looks like a 4v so it might be a factory A code. It also has power steering. It's an option, but most people don't like it. It's sloppy. No matter what though, That is a super nice car.
the engine looks to be the WRONG blue, and is missing the correct air cleaner. Your car is a great looking survivor, and I think that it could be a great candidate for a concours restoration since it is mostly there. What do you want this car to be?
Thanks all! It means a lot. Im getting really fired up about getting this thing out and working on it!
WOW! Thats the kind of answer I was looking for! In my experience with sport compacts the autos are slushboxes compared to the manuals. Taking as much as 2.5 seconds off the quarter mile times with a manual transmisson.
Where its the weekend Im gonna be hanging out with my buddies quite a bit (they've all came in from college.) Ill do my best to get down at the shop and to take some pictures of the door jam, side, and underneath ASAP.
Twister: I want this car to be something that I could take to a drag strip, show, or drive on a nice weekend. Daily driver is out of the question. I have a good daily driver and the roads around here suck. Coal trucks and all sorts of things to attack your paint are around here. So, it'll be more of a toy than anything. Also, when you said "it could be a great candidate for a concours restoration" what does "concours restoration" mean? Like I said, Im pretty much in the dark about the car and the terminology that comes with it.
As far as the blue is concerned on the engine, Im really not sure. Im thinking that dad has told me in the past that the engine was rebuilt, but the numbers are matching on the block and transmission. I'll try to get more information on that soon.
6Mustang6: What does 4v refer to? Is that like an option package?
Sorry for my excessive ignorance, but hey! At least Im trying to learn about it, haha.
Oh, I found out about the aftermarket tach in the car. Turns out that tach was bought for my dad by mom back in 1970 when he had his 1967 Chevelle SS. Dad sold the car and removed the tach and installed it on moms car.
Also, I was curious about your policy on sig size. I was wanting to put some pics as my signature and I didnt want to exceed the size limit. So it would be appreicated if I could get the specs for the sig.
