Default Flaming River steering box, you're thoughts...

Has anyone installed one of these? I'm thinking about getting one but, not sure if the 16:1 or 19:1 would be best. I don't have power steering so, I would think that the 16:1 would be harder to steer cause my box now is a 19:1. I do know that when you go from power steering to manual steering without changing the steering box, you are then using a 16:1 ratio box. That's what came with the power steering option.

Any thought guys?

Use the ratio that the old power steering boxes used. I cant remember which one it was though. i think 19:1. it's quicker turning.

16:1 is quicker. I have it and it's very responsive.

Is yours manual or power? How is it when you're trying to park? PITA?

oh well. I knew the power steering ratio with no power steering is best. So i would get the manual with 16:1 ratio.

I converted from PS to MS and went with the FR 16:1 which is same as old ratio.

1) no slop
2) tighter by far than the power steering but not unbearably tight. You get used to it and its no problem at all above 10 mph but at parking lot speed it does take some force.
3) does take some effort to install. on a 1966/ and 65 too (i think) you must remove motor mount and bracket and oil pan to remove old gear box ( which you can sell for about 70 bucks on ebay)
4) I think it was worth it
