Default Carb Question, still looking for help!!!

I am trying to figure out the best set up for mounting my carb on my 67, 289.It is a Ford manifold and a Autolite 4b. Do I need to use the spacer plate with the port for the PVC or can I bolt the Carb right to the manifold, there is a large vaccum port on the back of the Carb where I think I could connect to the PVC. I removed a Holley that had used the plate,(is it called EGR plate?). Note thanks to all who have answer to my other posts, the information has been a great help.thanks...

I'm guessing you have a factory 4V manifold. A little bit of a spacer is a good thing with most setups. Whether you get one with a port is up to you and where you want to connect your PVC.

How much of a spacer , the one that came with the car is 1 inch thick and a Holley on top.So do most set ups have spacer or bolt the carb right to the stock mainfold. What does the spacer do for the set up.

My 289 doesn't have a spacer, so I did some research on it.. Here are some bits of info I found on spacers.

Guys,
Is it a PVC valve or a PCV valve? I'm thinking PCV for positive cranckcase ventiliation valve? Just checking because pvc is used in the plumbing field!!

I forget the exact terms used, but a spacer does two things. The extra space creates a "swirling" effect so that your fuel and air are mixed better, and a spacer keeps the heat from the manifold from boiling the gas in the carb. With the new aftermarket aluminum manifolds, this is not so critical as the aluminum naturally dissipates the heat anyway.

It is PCV. PVC is Poly vinyl chloride.

Use the spacer with the stock manifold and Autolite carb. You could use the extra plenumn volume and it is also the easiest PCV connection. You could bolt it down to the manifold, but the carb wasnt originally intended to be run like that, it will perform better in a mild application with the plate.

Everyone meses up the PCV/PVC thing.. dont worry about it, when speakin cars you know what they mean. When doing plumbing or connecting a commode, you know its PVC.. Easiest way to remember the acronym is to know what the letters mean... Positive Crankcase Ventilation.. Lysergic acid diethylamide... Permanent Change of Station... Department of Motor vehicles... etc...
