I would look into Headers + Flowmaster Hush Power II mufflers. Kind of pricey but they sound really good. The sound is between a flowmaster 40 series and a glasspack if that makes any sense.

Im ready to buy my hooker longtube headers and im thinking about putting some glasspacks with it. what glasspacks do you guys think sounds best. im looking to get a mean agressive sound. oh, and i have a 289...
lots of other considerations...
is the motor a stocky or hot?
where do you plan to exit?
also makes a big difference what size pipes you use.

over here the exhaust guys love to recomend 2 1/2 inch pipes because it is more expensive and looks the part. i fell for it and despite several muffler changes, it still drones and basically sounds like a speed boat. i hate it!!! i am going glasspacks as well, but with 2 or 2 1/4 pipes to crisp it up a bit.

Whatever you choose, look thru them and try to keep the flow diameter the same size as your pipes, otherwise you are just choking your exhaust.

if you're into that obnoxious kind of exhaust tune then purple hornies have my vote. i.m.o glasspacks give you an obnoxious sound not a mean aggressive one. I would go with a setup that is congruent with your engine setup (i.e. some hooker aeros or flow super 40's). The sound will still be agressive but it will fit with your stang and not make you sound like a john deere bailer. as with any car part.....you get what you pay for.......

Cherry Bombs sound awsome for a week, but then they are so loud it gets annoying. I put a set of cut outs right after the headers, and stock flowmasters dumping underneath. Now i have the choice of having a nice rumble that will still make some noise, or opening the headers for when i want to be really obnoxious.

Moroso Spiral Flows. Not really a glasspack...but do they ever sound good (and you don't have to worry about any burnout).
