Can this spark plug wire be saved ?
I just bought these #$@%ing things and already screwed one up - can these be "stripped" and reconnected like normal electrical wires or do I need to buy an entire new set?

(If you're wondering what happened the metal part stayed on the plug when I pulled off the boot, the wire completely disconnected)

Yes it can be saved.
You shouldn't need to restrip it unless the core wire is messed up. Take a pair of needle nose pliers and pry into the connector a little bit to open it up so you can properly recrimp it over the wire and shielding. The core of the wire is supposed to stick out like that since it's folded back over wire casing before getting crimped in the connector.

ok if i'm looking into the wire there's red outer shell, some kind of yellow stuff, then white fiberglass-looking stuff, and then a thin metal wire (almost like metal sewing thread). What part gets crimped into the metal connector?
I'm thinking something needs to be exposed and touching the metal connector but I could be wrong?

If there is any one thing I learned as a young wrench turner, it was to buy quality spark plug wires. Yeah, you can re-crimp that thing, but you will probably have a static radio and get about half the juice to the plug that you need. See if there is a black thread inside that needs to crimp over so that good contact is made with the metal.
That bit of wire (3/8" - 1/2") that is exposed from the jacket is what gets folded back over the shielding. THen the metal crimp goes over both the wire and the jacket. The Crimp is actually crimped over the jacket with the wire sandwiched between it and the crimp.

Edit: If your theory were true then I guess all the stereo installers are just SOL since they will never get full power out of their amps or stereos because they had to crimp it themselves....
