Default need help!!!!

I am trying to take my steering wheel off and I have removed everything and it wont come off.... Anyone know how to take it off without the puller? I live overseas and cant get the tools (or parts) that I need easily. My steering wheel is stuck.

You're going to need a puller. You can make one with a straight peice of good steel (1/4" thick would work well). Drill clearance holes to screw into the steering wheel, then tap the center hole for a bolt/threaded-rod to push against the shaft.

Not sure what year you have but if you certain that no fasteners are holding it in place you could try heating the steering shaft with a torch.

Do you plan on reusing the steering wheel or are you replacing it?

You could heat the shaft to about 400F then pull back on the wheel and have someone strike the shaft with a hammer but make sure the nut is covering the threads on the shaft you dont want to damage them. If that doesn’t work perhaps add some more heat. Also you could spray WD40 or a penetrating oil on it when hot(ish) 350-400 and let it cool the whack it with the mallet again. (Don’t let the torch flame hit the oil spray, turn the torch off then spray the oil)

Its a risky solution but may work, you do run the risk of damaging stuff however so be careful.

well im not very familiar with the 68 style but if you dont plan to use it again and you have access to a dremmel tool, I think you could separate the spline collar pretty easy with a few cutoff wheels and then pop it apart with a metal chisel.

I think you should try to build the puller like C_M suggested before going to the more "last ditch effort" type tactics I suggested.

Grab hold of the steering wheel at the top and bottom or opposite sides and rock it back and forth while pulling on it. I have took numerous wheels off and have never used a puller. Just be ready for it to come loose because I did pop myself in the nose with the steering wheel once when it came loose.

Yes, but quite often, they just won't budge without a puller. Why can't you just get a steering wheel puller from most auto supply places? That's what I would do. I assume they do have auto supply places overseas. At least they did when I was stationed in Germany and Japan for 18 years. You didn't say where you are from overseas, and you may live in BFE, but the internet is your tool to order just about anything you desire, to include steering wheel pullers.

Good god man, dont cut it or tear it up... Just rent the puller from an auto parts store if you dont want to buy one... Otherwise, buy one. Do it right the first time, and the reinstalls will go smoothly as well...
