And if it's less than 9.8V would that be the voltage regulator?

If less than 9.8V, would that burn up points? Condensor?

If it's less, then your battery is not putting out enough juice. Either the alternator or your voltage regulator (or both) need to be checked. Check the battery for over 13 volts when the car is running. You get burned points when they are not set properly. Usually when they are set to far apart. Double check your point setting. When I had single points on my 289, the specs was 0.017. I have the pertronix ignition module now, and you should seriously consider that system as well to prevent future break-downs.

Boo on MSD!! I put an MSD box in my 95' Cherokee, it lasted 8 months. I had to pull the whole thing out and send it back. They sent me a new one, but couldn't tell me what went wrong with the old one. The new one lasted 18 months, then quit as well. Anyone know how frustrating it is to be out in the middle of nowhere with a 12 month old daughter and a broken down ignition system?? I put the stock coil back in, fired right up. Boo on MSD. Won't ever go that route again, I don't like being stranded.
