wheel pops
Grease caps shouldnt be a factor.... [:-]
Are your bearings in good shape.... is your spindle nut (or whatever it's called) nice and snug against the bearing? just a couple thoughts... [:-]

jack up that side of the car and firmly grab the wheel at the top and the bottom and see where the play is coming from. also from side to side maybe a wheeel bearing might be a tie rod etc just basically look for something loose also not a good idea to not have the grease cap on there keep road grit out of the bearings
u have to tighten more than the final torque to properly seat the bearing cant do that with ur two fingers glen then back it off and then torque again to the proper torque all while spinning th ewheel
Yeah, I guess with a new bearing, you are right. However, if you are only greasing the old bearing, using your thumb and two fingers is all you need. Just push on the wheel and wobble it while pushing on the bearing with the washer in place until it seats, then tighten with thumb and two fingers. Been doing it for many, many years and have never had a bearing burn out because it is too tight or any wheel wobble because it is too loose. Most of the time, shade tree mechanics make the mistake of getting them too tight, and the bearing burns out prematurally. You will also get what sounds like a popping sound if they are too tight, so that's why I said what I said.
