Default Please Don't Disown Me

OK here is the scenario. I am driving in my truck and I see a really nice 73 Vert Vette. I tell my 14 year old that I would really like to have that car, to which she responds "For ME?" I answer no for me. Then I tell her that I thought that she wanted a VW bug. She says yes. I then prod a little deeper and ask if she would rather have the corvette or a bug --- Her response "I wan't a red punch buggy!" (Those were her exact words.) So I am a failure as a father...[&o]

So now we are restoring a 71 Super Beetle - or in my daughters words a Punch Buggy. One thing I can say for them are parts are really cheap and they are easy to work on. I got off financially easy on this one.

jrrhd73must I would not say your a failure as a father , At least she wants a classic in its own right.
It could be worst you could be restoring a early 80's Civic for her. Now if your 14 year old was a boy
and you were restoring a red punch buggy for him , then I would have to say your first therapy session
is on me. My daughters only 2 but Im going to start her early.

I would not let my self be found DEAD in a " punch puggy ". the only reason why i woulder ever consider getting a VW bug is to turn it into a dune buggie....

I owned a 67 bug and could not destroy it no matter how much I abused it. I also had a 62 model VW camper when I was in Alaska and drove that 37 Horsepower thing everywhere, slept and cooked in it, etc. However, I would not own one now. Gutless wonders........

That's awesome!

As for the "buggy", many congrats on her interest this young in cars period! And double congrats on getting off cheap! A nicely-done 73 vert Vette would put anyone's pocketbook in a bind...

Before picking up the Mustang, I gave serious consideration to a VW Safari van with a Subaru drivetrain. "Dubs" are cool. That will be a real fun project for the two of you. My Aunt had a '71 Superbeetle brand new. Bright yellow. We called it the "Screaming yellow bonger".

Have fun!

Not bad cars, easy to work on and like you said.. CHEAP.. I have a soft spot for VWs, even had an 84 GTi.. That thing beat alot of hondas and other psuedo "fast cars" with wings fart cans and crap tacked on them. It was a get around go to work thing, painted flat black and only had the two front seats, dash, pedals, and shifter in it.. Might have been under 2000lbs..

You can make a bug run pretty hard if you are into that sorta thing, Porsche engines are a real close match and a punch buggy would have more of a stomp buggy attitude...
