reality check.

why would you NEED 450HP? Street usage? dragstrip? you will kill yourself

well to answer your question new heads, better cam, intake, bigger carb, longtube headers, xpipe, good mufflers. but of course, with the cam, you could get it as high as needing 93 Premium only or even higher octane racing gasses. and you will probably get 2mpg on a good day.

better answer. buy a 351cleveland block, get a mild cam, intake, a good sized carb, longtube headers and xpipe

You are insane.
Start with the rearend and suspension. 2-3 thousand should cover that.
Then 2 thousand for a tranny.
Then see how much money you have left to build an engine.

Build up a 7.5:1 short block with forged internals. Find some 2.02/1.60 heads, fully ported and polished. Use a roots-style blower as your intake. Call Comp Cams for a suggested cam. Install nitrous system.

But, that'll get you a bit more than 450hp. You could build a NA 450hp 302, but it's ability to run that power level on pump gas will be questionable.

If its a drag only ride, then its easier. 13:1 Compression, a huge cam and plenty of airflow. Making it driveable is entirely different, a 302 at that level will be ragged and barely driveable, it wont like to idle and will overheat even with a huge radiator and dual fans while sitting in traffic.

I would suggest a 347 stroker and a blower, afr heads, and make sure the crank, rods and pistons are all forged. It should only run you about $15,000 to build it. Then you need the 9" rear that is beefed to handle it, and a built trans. A small block C6 is tough to find but that would be the auto you need.

302 blocks tend to break right down the middle at around 550-700hp in boosted applications so you might end up with an expensive pile of junk parts after a few passes.

If it were my car and I wanted MEGAPOWA.. I would drop in a Cleveland or a 460 with ported aluminum heads. Its easy to get 500hp from a 460 even with just the Edelbrock heads. It will even fit in a 70 Mustang.. sorta...

Just so you know its tough to have 1 horse per cubic inch in a streetable small block, but even 300 or 350hp is much easier to do and will still scare the bejezus out of you and some of your friends.

We have a 302 block 347 with blower sitting in your shop now puting out 530 Hp and around 500 Ft/lbs of torque. you can get a simialar engine from us for less then $8,000 with a 1 year 12,000 mile waranty. Your standard 347s put out 400+ hp
