Hello Royce, and welcome to the classic section of Mustangforums.com Sorry for the short answer, but this question gets asked almost every day, so we have posted the how-to's in the FAQ. If you go on top of this section, you will see the FAQ. You can also go to the bottom of this thread and see the search engine. Just type in the pertinent information, and you will see all the discussions about this swap we have posted in the past. Good luck with your endeavor to swap that 6 banger out for a V8. It is not cheap though.

Welcome to the Mustang brothewood, you will find here all the answers to your questions, the change from 6 to V8 is almost a every day question, read all the info that you can find here and then you have to decide if the change is for you, among other things that you have to consider is if your car is close to the factory original and if you are going to keep it or eventually you will like to change for a real V8..it is great that you got a 302 free however the exchange will involve much more that the engine alone and the cost of the total changes sometimes exceed the resale value that you can get in the future for a non original classic..that is only my opinio good luck with your project

That is also my opinion, in that a non-original is worth less than an original. You might want to reconsider the change, and update/overhaul that I6. It would be a whole lot cheaper, and you could always brag that you have an original Mustang that has not been altered.
