Default Adjusting choke and idle

Hello all,
I recently acquired a 66 convertible with 289 V8 and 2V Ford carb. My question is how to adjust the choke and carb to their optimum settings. The car runs great with the exception of a little engine ping at first acceleration. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Gary

The ping is most likely not related to your carb and choke settings, but rather timing. But, to answer your question, you can loosen the three little screws on your black round choke housing and turn that so that the butterfly closes completely when the engine is cold. After it gets up to operating temp, then check to see that the buttterfly is completely open. Keep adjusting until you get it right. The idle screw on an autolite 2100 is on the back of the carb where the linkage hooks up to the carb. Set it for about 800 RPM.

Thanks for the info, Soaring. What do you recommend the timing be set at?
