Default what to get

Hi guys I just boght a 69 fatback and am starting to rebuild it, I have a 3 speed transmission and no trac-lock, should I get a 4 speed tranny and a track-lock for amateur drag racing or the one I have is enough, I am planning on a 380 Hp engine. Thanks

I would seriously consider a bit more of a tranny than the stock 3 speed, and I would also seriously consider a traction lock rear too. The old 4 speed top loader has been used for many years with that amount of engine power, and the 9 inch traction lock differential has been a proven winner.

a 3 speed isnt big enough. trac0locks are expensive carriers, im considering a locker of some sort and i'll just bare the turning differences.

The 3-speed toploader is only good for 1st and 2nd...it'll fall flat on its face after you shift to 3rd.

If you're planning on bracket racing, I'd consider a C6. The auto will give you consistant times and give you an edge. A built 8" or 9" will work with a 380hp small block with an auto. Check a company like Currie Enterprises for some good suggestions.

go with a top loader, they just have the right "feel " in those cars. only problem is they are pretty expensive when they are in good shape. i went the the trouble of getting all the parts: bell housing, fly wheel, clutch , re built top loader, hurst linkage etc and never put it in. but i did use the hurst shift ball ! good luck with your project.
