4R70W
You need the control box.
If you do not want to source and install a control box, you can get an aod built with the same gearset and other internal peices fromther aode/4r70w (except for the e-controllers parts). That's what I have for my AOD.

The TCS is $425.00

It works great. Absolute tunability of shift points and line presure.

But I built it 3 times so am I not a good source.
I spent 1600 or so for the first one
then 2000 or so after I broke it
then 1300 or so after I broke it again.
I would think that you can do the whole conversion for under 2k though. edit: that's with all new stuff.
Well...I would recommend a lentech or art carr.
You can get an AOD case/core cheap and a decent tranny shop can install the 4r70w gearset and upgrade clutches and bands you need as well as a good shift kit for prob less than $1300.
Then you need the cross member, tvcable, converter, you can fab the linkage for next to nothing, yoke, driveshaft shortened and then fab up the connector for nuetral safety and backup lights.
There is a little more to putting in an AOD than buying the AOD unfortunately.

The TV cable is the throttle valve cable. It takes the place of the vacuum modulator and uses a mechanical input to tell the transmission how much throttle angle there is to change line pressure, and shift points, among other things..
if its too tight, you get sky high line pressure. Too loose and you dont get enough to keep the clutches from slipping. Also the cable pull distance and throttle ar angle need to be correct. In other words, the cable has to come out a certain amount for a certain amount of throttle angle. So the mounting position on the throttle arm of your carb has to hqave the right distance from the pivot shaft or you will have gremlins poppin up everywhere..
FYI.. the E versions of transmissions dont have TV cable.. they have a controller instead.
