Similar story. The 68 Mustang was originally produced in SanJose, purchased in Sunnyvale then sold to the guy who had it before me in the Sunnyvale area. He gave it to his daughter who drove it for about five years, according to him, before she blew the transmission. It then sat in her front yard for apporximately two years before he said he couldn't take it anymore. He got it back from her and had the transmission fixed with the idea that he would give it to his son. His son got tired of it shortly after installing a new exhaust system (poorly), shooting some paint on it (also poorly), and performing some minor repairs to get it running. Rusted cowl, rusted floor pan (passenger's side salvagable), rusted inner fender apron (battery), other minor rust, deteriorated brake hoses and coolant hoses, factory AC not working (haven't got around to diagnosing it yet), shot rubber suspension parts, very low differential fluid, and the list goes on. Generally looking like a car that had been sitting for some time and probably wasn't taken care of all that well for several years before. On the other hand, it's mostly all original parts (I have the orignal exhaust headers and rims), and should be fun for my wife and I to work on as long as I don't let it get me down.[8D]
Ol' Yeller was used as a vehicle that was towed behind a motor home so that when the folks got to where they were going, they had a small vehicle to cruise to the store, etc. There was a hook-up that had been welded to the front frame rail, and with my trusty cutting torch, that was one of the first things to go. The second thing to go was the mud flaps on the rear, and the luggage rack. That reminds me of a country and western song......"What was I thinking." Yeah, WTF were they thinking to make a classic Mustang into a vehicle that was towed behind a motor home? Ol' Yeller must have been crying crocodile tears while it was being towed.
I think Iam the second owmer of a 67 Coupe. It came from California where it was pastdown in this family .The last son to have rebuilt the motor and got tried of it .It must of sat inside for the last 15 plus years or longer cause there is no rust on its at all, its all original metal ,the fenders, the floors ,everything. they must not have driven it much for you can see the green paint under the car.Just need a new vinly roof and good paint after I finish with the motor.Iwuould post pic but have't figured that out yet.
I'm the third owner of a car that has never lived further than 60 miles from the plant where it was built. I've got almost every years registration tag, the original owners manual and the original licence plate frame from the dealer who sold it. This was the second biggest reason I bought it.
I believe i'm now the third owner of mine. I bought it from my high school algebra teachers husband for $500 it ran (poorly), the interior had been painted with spray paint seats and all . My folks bought the car for me and had friends they knew look at the mechanicals and had it painted and interior replaced. I drove it until about 1994 when a bunch of things went south all at once and I couldn't afford to repair it. It went into a barn at that time. Next to my dad's 1966 Galaxie 500(which my brother drove (R.I.P)). I'm looking at doing a full restomod on mine in the near future.
I have the frame plate from the dealer and plates that where on the car ,the plates where first used or made in 1963.All so have original owner's manual with the same name in it from the dealer plate frame.
