What do you guys think?
Ive been lookin around for 3 point seatbelts for the 68 coupe, A couple different mustang places have them, but for like 250 bucks. I was lookin on ebay and found 5 point racing harness, a pair (2) for like 65 bucks. Also on ebay i found HEI distributors for like 60 bucks brand new and the people had perfect feedback ratings. I know you only get what you pay for, but for so cheap, what do ya think.
While a 5 point harness is a huge step in safety, it is uncomfortable for daily use. Historically people leave the shoulder belts loose reducing the effectivness.
Are you planning a roll bar install?
Why do you have to buy a kit from a Mustang place?

By kit i meant, bolts and all that jazz. And i wasnt thinkin bout the roll bar for the 5 point harness, good point. But get on ebay and type in 289 distributors and just look at some of the deals that come up. They dont even look cheaply made.
I would go for the 3-point ones, I got them for about the amount you said, $250, let me tell you, well worth it, easy to get in and out, no extra modifications needed, and hey, what's $250 if its going to save your life?
I got 3 point fitted to my 66 which never had belts originally. the ones i got were modern buckles etc, but had a drop link from the roof mount to keep the belt at shoulder level from the roof mount instead of higher on your neck. attached a photo (not my car) where you can sort of see it on the right hand side.
looks period and more comfortable.
btw, if we fit our own belts here (even replacing worn ones in original mounting points) then insurance can be voided in an accident. is that the same for you or can anyone fit belts??

Well, I have broad shoulders, so I don't have a problem with the belt sliding, however, for the passenger's sake, I might install a hook type contraption that will hold the sealt belt in place when in use, I removed my stock seats, so I have taller sets that can accomodate this.
You know, you got me thinking about insurance (I live in Cali), that's a great point, I have to find out about that.
