Filler Over Acid Etch???
does it matter if filler is put over acid etch primer? i heard the acid can slow the curing process of the filler....but does that mean it jsut slows it but dosent effect the outcome? or that it dosent allow it to cure?

Acid etch primer can cause adhesion problems over time. It is best to use your filler direct to metal. Always scuff metal with 60 to 80 grit paper before applying filler. DO NOT USE acid etch primer over any body filler. Body fillers are talc based which makes them very absorbent. They will actually suck moisture out of the air. If you need to apply a primer to the metal before filler use an epoxy primer. It will seal the metal from any moisture that may be drawn in through the filler. I could go on and on about fillers. The best straight to metal filler that will not absorb water is a metal base like Metal to Metal. It has aluminum instead of talc and is not porous.

RE: Filler Over Acid Etch???
im using evercoat Z grip filler....people on here reccomended it.
what i did was spray the whole bare metal fender with a light coat of acid etch primer (evercoat) then i could actually see the rough spots....i then grinded the primer off to bare metal, and used the filler, i then used some 80 grit to begin taking it down.......now i suppose i should get a good 2k filler primer to put over that and then fill over that again and sand again keep repeating this until its straight and smooth....yes or no?

I would build the surface up with the filler (Z grip is good stuff and you can't go wrong with evercoat) working it to the shape you want. When you are at the shape you want move up in paper size ~150 grit then use a 2K primer. 2K primers are more for removing the sand scratches and less to shape the surface. Always use a guide coat over the 2K before sanding. This will help you see the low spots that may need a polyester finishing and glazing putty. I always seal the finished repair with a primer/sealer before painting. This does two things for you. 1, Keeps the paint from bleeding into the filler and leaving a dull look to the paint. 2, Acts as a moisture barrier to keep the filler from contact with water.
