Confused about bearing retainer.

Confused about bearing retainer.
I am in the process of replacing the worn out aluminum bearing retainer on my T5 tranny. The two tech articles that I read say to install with the narrow drain at the bottom and the wide one at the top. Problem is, the original retainer was just the opposite. I don't know if it had been previously changed. What do I do?

Wonder if it would make a difference if it's a WC or non-WC?
You might want to stop by the library and just double check. Mitchell or Chiltons Professional reference set should have that information.
