Default Trunk Tension Rods

how do you remove the trunk lid tension rods??? i got a fiberglass deck lid and its sitting a little crooked and they reccomend oyu take them off so im going to see if thats any differnence or not.....

OK it is hard to tell you so i will show you in some pic. tomorrow when it gets light out. lets just say it takes a big pry bar and a football helmet with a face mask lol

I used vice grips when installing the torsion rod in the 72. (My particular year / model of car only used 1 rod, I believe it was only the spoiler-equipped cars for 72 that used 2 rods).

Anyway, I put the vice grips on as pictured below. Obviously they are not attached in this picture as I did not want to scratch the paint. If you decide to go the vice grip route, then attach them as firmly as possible, meaning it will take both hands and about as much force as you can generate to close the vice grips. You don't want the grips to slip off halfway through removal.

Once they are on, then grab the vice grips with both hands and firmly and evenly lift the torsion rod up and then over the little
retaining flange. Drop it down carefully and then it's on to the other one.

Somebody can correct me if there is anything different that you need to do for a car that has 2 of these rods. At the least you may have an "anti-rattle" clip that needs to be removed before you can take the rods out.

Take your time and be careful with it whichever method you decide to use.

that that will work too i think mine were on so tight that i needed two people one lifting on it with vice grips and another with a pry bar.... well any way good luck and don't get hit in the face it looks like it would hurt
