Default What to look for?

Hey people, just joined the site. It looks great. the mods did a great job on it. I can see that I'm going to do alot of reading here. This is were I stand on my mustang project. I have a 429 that was in my flat bottom boat. Had to sell it when the family came along. I pulled the motor and dismantled it a few years ago. Its now being reassembled. I can't wait to see it on the dyno! Arr Arr Arr!
I started looking for 1967-68 fastbacks to drop it into. I can't believe how much those 2 years have gone up in price! wow!
I'm not a body man at all but, I want to learn everything I can to help me make the right car selection. If I could find a car that was in great shape would be ideal,
but if I can't what are the key things to look for?
Torque boxes, frame rails, floor pans, rear quarter pannels, trunk ect...
Is it wise to buy a car thats had all of these thing replaced?
Will a car that old handle 500-600 hp?

Thanks in advance
Rob

well what to look in about the car is rust! thats a major problem you'll never know but look around and especially inside and under the car ESPECIALLY the engine compartment! you dont want ur engine to drop behind you also check the floor panels as well becuase that a major problem and it mess up the the strength of the car ...also you car should put up with a 500-600hp engine. I have a 347 putting out 560 and i have no problems thank god also if you want to check suspension it would be best to get new ones and rebuild it or buy high performance suspension a good place would be mustangsplus.com they have a good kits. also check the fire wall and the frame to see if they are no cracks or rust. thats pretty much it really and just get slicks and ur set lol also if u dont want big slicks hoosier came out with some slicks that are used for the streets lol im about to comp sum my self lol but yeh thats pretty much what to look for, and dont rush things check every thing!! in the end its worth it!! good luck on ur project!!

Dude, your killing me! Hehe! My sides! Was he crying for his MOMMIE! You know what eventually happens when you dish out all that Smak! You see the little monkey backup to the fan and lift its tail. I think you can guess the rest.
So you liked the link below. What did you like about it? Are there any questions you would ask the owner? I'm 2500 miles away so it's hard to see the car. you know what I mean Vern!

My brother found a 67 fastback and bought it for $300. No motor, no trans. Body in not good shape, needed new floor pans. He did all the work, new floors, 302, 5 spd, all the shelby fiberglass, trunklid, rear quarter extensions, tail lights, scoops upper and lower, hood. Sold it for $6500. I'm sure he lost money on the deal. $6200 may or may not be a good deal for that car. On one hand it seems like a lot has been done. On the other it has no motor or trans. I know you have yours, but if you could get one with a car, it sweetens the deal, as you could sell them and make some of your money back.

I guess in the end, it comes down to what it is worth to you. Thats a lot of HP, and you need to know your body is solid. I would recommend adding subframe connectors, maybe even the TCP package with the cross type subframe connectors.

Have fun...

yeh Darrin o is right it all depends on what u want and what u feel comfortable with! i think i would go with the primered fastback but thats just me. also tci does make good suspension and it does take off sum weight. as well as adding subframe connectors and all the other goodies. to strengthen up the car!

Darrin O, Rwcstang, thats the dilema I'm facing. On one hand this guy has gone through the entire body. Front to rear, and like your brother, just wants to sell it.
No motor, no tranny. But a 9in rear end. From the pics it looks solid.
Now on the other hand, I could buy a car thats a looks good. But I could wind up replacing torque tubes, floors, ect.... **** you guys know the drill.
Eitherway subframe connecters sound like the way to go. Anyway to beaf it up I will.
Thanks for the input, sorry to bore you guys with newbie questions.
I'm taking my 429 in to the shop tomorrow to be reassembled. I can wait to hear that bitch start! I'm going to be like that old man in the movie "Road trip", you know the one that topk the viagra and was knocking everthing down with his hardon!
Talk to you guys later!

Default Newbie- Convertible opinions, please

My 68 top has come off of the 2nd hoop from the front. Does not appear to have been glued in place. Anyone know how it should be reattached? Thanks!

Tom
