Default what to do?

ok guys. my old 289 needs a little help. it does get up and go pretty good, but i need more. im not sure of the build but i know about the bolt ons. i put on tri-y headers, flamethrower electronic ignition, its got a holley 4 barrel- not sure of the cfm, i think it has some sort of cam because it idles a little on the radical side. definately not the stock intake manifold. 2 1/2 inch exhaust through flowmaster 40's. im not sure if it has been bored over at all but the heads do look pretty fresh. i know im getting robbed by my rear end its the original 283, i hate it. c4 tranny. anyway i want a little more go and i was thinking about the paxton set up for the 289. it does burn a little black in the exhaust and sometimes idles rough and usually starts a little hard. what would i have to do to this motor to bolt up the paxton? am i gonna blow it up if i do? i dont even have a clue as to what my hp rating is right now. any advice is greatly appreciated. thanks guys!!!!

stock 8inch rear?

dont get a paxton S/C yet. get bigger gears and some sort of locker for that rear. you wont hate it then.

maybe even get a t-5 trany and do a tranny swap. theres more power for ya! if you cant get enough power like me, Theeeennnnn, get a S/C

your going to need the gears and the locking differential. most people would say get new axles too, but if yours aint broke, dont fix them. i would take it to a shop to put them on. if you dont know wht your doing, then it may cost you alot later on

search http://www.summitracing.com for gears and a locker

Do not, and I repeat Do not tear into that rear end if you don't have experience.

yea from what i have heard it can be a real pain in the ***. usually i do everything with my dad and a detailed shop manual. if its too much of a pain ill just take it in and pay for it.
