Rewring Entire Car
How much should i expect to pay to have the entire car rewired?? The shop owner where i currently have my car at will do it for a labor charge of 700 plus materials. Im sure i can get it down to 600 but is this the right estimate??
Thanks

700 bux plus parts is not a bad estimate. Yes, you can buy the painless system and do it yourself, but if you are unsure about anything regarding wiring a car, then have a pro do it for the 700 bux.
Wiring a car is probably the most frustrating thing to do except for replacing the cowl.

try it yourself the wires are color coded take pics and mark the ends of the old harness with tape and where they go the wiring kits for a vintage stangs are pretty cheap just go for it
I dunno... rewiring my car only took less than a weekend, but mine didn't have an interior or anything in the engine bay. I say if its already apart go for it yourself, every wire in the painless kit is color coded to the original Ford coloring and its destination is printed on the wire every foot or so. I've never done any serious wiring before and I didn't screw it up at all. However, if the car is still assembled, that would be a different story...
Rewiring a nowadays car? heck no. But these old mustangs? it really REALLY shouldn't be that hard for someone who can work on cars. Make sure you have a nice schematic, preferably color coded (just cuz its prettier) and have at it.
If his labor rate is $70.00/hour that covers 10 hours labor. In turn he is giving you back a car with new wiring. 10 hours is a good deal. He must have either done Mustangs in the past, or doesn't have a clue what he's getting himself into
A proper professional job, isn't just replacing the wiring harness. It should also includes electrical systems checks with written confirmation that includes the results of those checks. Anybody can install a harness, that's the easy part.
There are 5 different tests on the starting system itself. Three more on the charging system. There are tests for every circuit on the car. All of them have specific values they should measure out at. Knowing this information about your car is invaluable. As a professional, I wouldn't touch it for less than 15 hours labor. At that, I'd be humping to make a buck. The end result for the customer is well worth the money.

i do have to say 700 bucks is a pretty good estimate.....painless kits are like 300-600 plus your time and effort and confusion.....plus of sopmething goes wrong.....you can blame him and have him fix it
he doesnt use the painless wiring system. He uses original ford wiring for everything. He has re-wired about 5 or 6 mustangs and gaurantees his work. I dont know a thing about wiring so having someone else go through the trouble is a good idea.
