Default Va-rooom! Sound question

I have been wathcing two movies "Vanishing Point" and "Bullit".

Both featured cars have very distinctive sounds when accelerating. Is it possilbe to get an exhaust system that is quiet when idling but has that amazing throaty, gutteral sound when accelerating hard. Afterall, the sound of the engine is one of the great pleasures of owning a muscle car.

Any suggestions?

I should have added that I hear alot of LOUD stangs - which does not impress me. The sound I'm looking for is like music to the ears. Check out either movie (Vanishing Poit or Bullit) to hear.

With super 40's the FE is quiet at idle, but you can hear the rumble for a good distance...when you go WOT its loud enough to drown the sound of an 06 supercharged saleen, even in the inside of it(i know from experience, dude)...that might be what your looking for.

I think what you really want is a Hollywood sound studio. Turbo mufflers are generally pretty quiet at idle and scream at full throttle. Purple Hornies (and other glass packs) are a little louder in both instances. Electronically activated cutouts with really quite mufflers would be another option. Just use a WOT switch to open the cutouts.

Has anyone seen either of these classic movies? Maybe they are glass packs - however I assume they're lound at idle - am I wrong?

It's interesting to note that they spend a great deal of time and money on the harmonis of the new Mustamgs - which I think sound very good.

You do realize that the car sounds in those movies are all sound tracks right? It is all added in later.
