Im getting ready to do the front disc swap on my coupe and have been wanting to replace the front coil springs before i put the car back on the road in the spring. When i remove the old spindles off the front end, i wont need a spring compressor to get the coils out then will i? Also, does anybody know how many inches it is from the floor to the top of the fender on a stock 68 coupe with a 289 and ditto for the rearend? Trying to figure out how the suspension drop will look and function w/ 17's. thanks in advance.
If i were you i would get a spring compressor, if that spring lets loose it will break every bone in your face, not to mention you'll need it to get the springs back in.

You'll definitely need the spring compressor, as Matt mentioned.
The drop will look the same with what ever size wheels you have, assuming you keep the tire diameter the same. Look around here and you'll find quite a few Stangs with 16" and 17" wheels and dropped suspensions.
If you do not use a spring compressor, you will be leaving the problem of how to get that spring back in to whoever inherits the car. This is the Mustang version of Darwinism.
