Don't spray clear over black primer. Not sure that the effort will give you the result you want. Matte black is ok but it reminds me of Robo Cop.

hey, thanks for all the replies, i do really like the black and think i will probably stick with it, i still have a lot of the black left over anyway. Hey soaring, i know the hood looks like crap in that pic, and that is becasue it was taken over the summer when the old hinges were still in.
What do you all think of cowl hoods, nothing crazy just one with a little cowl, or do you think it is to much like a chevy?

now now now, nothing wrong with it looking like a chevy... being a chevy guy i am hoping that influence rubs off on my mustang, which i refuse to acknowledge is a ford... even the ford lettering isnt going back on the car

I think a Boss Nine scoop would look better than the cowl hood, especially on a '69.

I'll vote for the matt black...looks good.

i must say, that color that the car is painted now looks bitchen! i would spray it that color again and spray a gloss coat over it, or if you dig the dull look, just spray a protective coating over it that does not shine.

dark glossy colors like black and blue will show off every ripple, dent, ding and wave in the car. Unless you have it perfectly straight, dont gloss it. You can get flat black paint for it, it doesnt have to be primer. I have the flat back on one of my Firebirds and it makes it look alot better than it is. Its got the stealthy clansdestine street race look about it.. all you need is the engine from Bob Gliddens Pro Stocker and you are good to go..

I think cowl hoods look better on Fox bodies than on Classics. Consider a Ram Air hood, or even one like this one. Actually the hood you already have looks good to me.
