Default Supercharging

I was at the Mustang shop when the head mechanic showed me a supercharger he is putting on a 65 coupe. He said it would add an extra 100 hourses.

I have a few questions:

Is a stock 65 or 66 able to handle the extra stress this power puts on the engine and/or frame?

Does this "harm" the character of the car by making it into something it was not intended to be?

Does supercharing effect relaibility or drivability in any way?

How much does supercharging typically run?

If its so great - why don't more people do it?

It supercharing - or replacing the cam - a better way to increase power?

Thanks

Default RE: Supercharging

The amount of horsepower-gain depends on a lot of other things, especially the build of the motor. Most of the centrifugal (Paxton) blowers out there use a bypass system which does not allow boost until you hit about 2K RPM. It WILL put stress on the motor, and the chassis. Most of the rest of your questions will be answered by how deep your wallet is. Expect about $3.5K for a new setup built to install in a classic Mustang, with a methanol injection system...my $.02...

Depends on the power. Subframe connectors and cross braces would help

That's a personal desicion. Shelby put SCs on Mustangs

A lot of power changes driveability especially in the rain

How much does supercharging typically run?
3-4K

A few people do do it. But mainly cost and some don't want exra power for a cruiser.

Changing a cam cannot compare to the power you'd get from a SC but of course it's a whole lot cheaper
