Default how about them 289s?

So I came across a good deal on a 1967 ford 289 motor, complete running. I was wondering if these motors are any good, or if their worth buying to put heads/cam/intake on for my rolling chassis. if anyone has any info on them or thinks i should or shouldnt get it, let me know. Thanks.

of course they are good. they have been the basis of ford v8's for so long its amazing....the 289 and 302 are essentially the same engine incase u didn't know. u can make an extremely savage beast of an engine out of a ford small block. but like any other type of engine, it costs money, stock, they are nothing really impressive but good for daily driving and what not....

this is not for your fox right?

whether it is for his fox or not the 289 is the best late modal motor ford produced (in my opinion). stick heads, a cam, an intake, a good carb, and some nice exhaust, you wont be able not to speed!

its was a race proven engine that beat ferrari back in the 60's and its a very nimble and very capable of good power plus it will wind up quick

sorry to butt into someone elses thread like this, but ive also been pondering about maybe eventually swapping a 289 in my fox for its revving ability. i wanted to put together a 289 hi po kinda set up (something that can wind up to like 8 or 9k rpms) but not pay out the *** to put it together, but i can't really find 289 rotating assembly parts anywhere i've looked online. is it possible to put together a roller cam 289 with a modern 302 block? ive been reading something to the effect of the later (like post 289) 302 blocks have a taller deck, so basically i don't know what could be done short of putting in an old motor like modfox wants to do. i figure if anyone could help me clear some things up it would be you classic guys.

oh yeah definitely, its the same block, just different rod lengths i think. i was just confused if you were gonna put it in your fox or your "rolling chassis" which i thought u mean like classic stang....ive never seen a 289 in anything but a classic, that would be cool to see.

i have seen it it is real nice! I'm not sure about revving a V8 to 8 or 9k that would explode. i would look on e bay for re-build kits. and remember you get what you pay for so buy good stuff

it would be going in this 85. its a drag car with some fancy wheels. full cage no interior race seats, all suspension, should be decent with a good cam carb intake and maybe some heads depending on funds.

i was under the impression that with some lightweight rods and crank that they would be able to wind up pretty high. if not, then i'll probably end up going with a 302 instead

like these here
or even the stockers like these here
