z-bar differences?
I'v got a 70 fastback, original 6cyl. that is being converted to 351W. I believe there are two different shaped z-bars that will fit the 289,302 351 application. One of the bars are made of two pieces of steel and the later ones are made of three pieces. I have noticed that some of these advertized on Ebay are bent. Is one of ther bars stronger than the other or is the bending a natural thing over time and is there an advantage of one shape over the other as I will be running headers.
Yes, there are Z bars for the 65-66 289 engines, and there is a different shaped Z bar for the 67-70 model 289-302's. The one for the 67-70 looks bent as opposed to the 65-66 one. You will need to order the one for the 67-70 models.
If you are using a performance type pressure plate, I'd recommend beefing up your z-bar before it gets bent. After bending two of them, I reinforced the new one and haven't had a problem since.
