Upgrading a 302 2v carb to a 4v??
First of all this is my first post to this site and I love all of the stang talk and info!! Other people that love their mustangs as much as a I do!!
So down to business, I just recently bought a 302 with a stock 2bbl carb. It's easy enough to smoke the tires with the factory 4-speed, but I wanted to convert it to a 4bbl. Is this as easy as just bolting on the new intake manifold and carb (I hope)? I've heard that I may need to replace my cylinder heads as part of this process, or was that just someone trying to sell me on an upgrade?
Technical questions aside, is the difference between a 2bbl and a 4bbl worth the price and how noticeable is it? Any advice / feedback would much appreciated!

On a 302 you wont have to change the heads, there is no differentiation between 2venturi and 4venturi heads. I believe the only ones that it made a difference on was the 351 clevland. So yes its just as easy as taking off your old one and bolting the new one in place.

So it sounds like the swap would be easy enough, but can you feel the difference when driving it and is it enough of a difference to make it worth the cost in your guy's opinion?
What did you think when you did yours Grimm?

Deffinate change in acceleration. I have a tired 289 to begin with that I'm going to rebuild, but when I made the swap a few years back I felt the differance.
I definitely will! I have to sell my other '68 (200ci) first to get some money for the endless list of improvements / upgrades I have in mind. Maybe I'll give the classified area here a try to sell that?
The 4v carb setup will give you about 20 or so more ponies at full throttle, but nothing at anything less than full throttle. The secondaries have to kiick in before the 4v has any advantage over the 2V carb and intake.
Welcome td to the forums!
I changed from a 2v to a 4 last summer. It was not that hard. I found all original stuff off of fleabay. I used the book "rebuilding small block ford engins" and a factory shop manual as a guide. I even rebuilt my own carb for the first time. Runs great!
